Gravestrike war

The Gravestrike War is the name given to the crusades and ongoing war in the oriental continent against the undead army that has overrun the land.

Nobody seems to truly know how the war started, or where the undead army came from. The only details that are universally agreed upon are:

• At a time when magic was not known to the common folk, and when the only sentient race to live on the surface of the world were humans, an army of undead began marching in the eastern region of the oriental lands.
• The army moved through the land very quickly, making short work of many settlements, raising their inhabitants as more undead warriors.
• Shortly after the beginning of the war, the mage guilds began to appear, and other sentient creatures arrived around Yarel from the underground.
• Since that time the war has been continually fought, armies have been sent to oriental lands to conquer and the undead armies continue to fight back.

Most agree that (taking the last 100 years into account) the war is not going well. Numerous armies, mainly originating from Argatia have been sent on crusades to the oriental lands and each of these has had some effect. Land has been gained from the undead hordes but each time over the intervening years (until the next crusade) much of it is lost again. The current situation is virtually a stalemate, possibly with a slight advantage to the undead armies (as they do not tire).

It is universally assumed that there are very few (if any) living creatures at all on the oriental continent, except for in the few outposts and fortifications on the southern coastline.
