[edit] People
The people of Argatia are known as Argatians. The spoken and witten language of the region is also known as Argatian.
[edit] Industry and economy
Argatia has a very stable economy based on farming and working to the needs of the community. Trade is healthy between settlements as is trade of rarer items outside of Argatia's borders.
With the gravestrike war in full-swing there is now a new demand for greater amounts of weapons of war and related equipment. Generally Argatia is coping with this new demand, although most of the industry related to the war is centralised within the city of Dekov.
[edit] Major settlements and locations
[edit] Cities
- Jestle is the capital city of Argatia, home to the royal family and the Argatian throne.
- Dekov is a highly industrial, export-based city that has risen to high status with the requirements for weapons and implements of war.
- Irongate has risen to note through the common people. It is considered that Irongate is simply a good place to live. Many commoners move there for the high level of comforts the town has for its inhabitants.
- Horlas is a northern city of contemplation, archives and cerebral activity. Whilst it caters for all walks of life, many scholars seek this city out as a place to study and debate with their peers.
- Rimlock is a northern city close to the borders with the Talon Mountains. There is a good amount of trade there, especially in precious and rare metals.
[edit] Fotifications
- Vitatry Fortress is the northern fortress on the coast of Argatia, and the scene of a number of battles where the undead of the oriental continent have sent invading forces.
- Ryzak Pass is the closest major fortification in proximity to Jestle.
[edit] Relations with other cultures
[edit] Espandor
Argatia's relations with Espandor continue to be profitable and stable. Whilst the two cultures do not fully understand each other, they do trade together for mutual benefit. Argatian people generally regard the Espantii to be a strange people with strange customs and ways. Whilst the Argatians generally stay clear from these customs, they see that the Espantii are not hurting anyone and so they are treated with kindness and respect.
[edit] Kornov
The relations with Kornov are somewhat less prolific than the relations with Espandor. Kornov is a harsh and unforgiving climate and many Argatian diplomats and traders have perished after underestimating the climate and conditions to the south. The Kornites are seen as a brutal and somewhat uncivilised culture, although of course no Argatian would ever say that to a Kornite's face unless they were ready for a deadly combat. The Kornites are considered to be able men when it comes to survival skills and the art of war. For those skills at least they are respected and valued.
[edit] The orient
Argatia is the main participent in the gravestrike war with the undead of the oriental continent. A number of armies have been sent overseas to the north in order to wage the continuing battles there. Overall the campaign has been progressing poorly, although gains have been made in a few places.
[edit] The mountainfolk
Argatia has some dealings with both the mountainfolk of the Ridge Mountains and also the nomansland of the Talon Mountains. These encounters have been mixed and unpredictable. Sometimes it has led to hostilities and sometimes it has led to beneficial trade and stable relationships. The saying goes in Argatia when dealing with the mountainfolk:
Keep one hand on your blade as your other is extended in friendship
There have been some gains made recently when dealing with the town of Chargol in the Talon Mountains however, there is a quite regularly-used trade caravan route across the mountain pass between Chargol and the north-Argatian town of Rimlock.
[edit] Religion
The most popular religion in Argatia are the churches of the Powers of the Marble Tabernacle. Between all civilised people in Argatia (excluding 'enemy races') approximately 70% of them are a follower of one of the churches related to the Powers of the Marble Tabernacle.
Other religions that are well-known and have a number of followers within Argatia include (in order of popularity) the Spiritual Traders and the order of the Arcane Flame.
Other benign religions are generally tolerated as long as their followers are not overly fanatical. There have been a few recorded instances of Argatians converting to religions of Kornov or Espandor, although these are still very rare.
